Top students competing at ECU

Anonymous East Central University The Evening News Fri Mar 25, 2011, 07:48 AM CDT — Regional winners of junior high and high school science projects and research papers will compete for prizes beginning Thursday at Oklahoma State Science and Engineering Fair and Oklahoma Junior Academy of Science held annually at East Central University. Cash, science-related prizes and scholarships will be awarded in the two competitions. The science fair has 237 projects completed by 261 junior high and high school students. Four of the students are homeschooled and the others come from 52 public and private schools. Exhibits can be viewed from 6-10 p.m. Friday in Kerr Activities Center. Judging for grades 7-9 will start at 8:30 a.m. Friday. Judging begind at 1 p.m. Friday for high school projects for grades 10-23. Eighty-one students will begin presenting their research papers Thursday afternoon in the Oklahoma Junior Academy of Science competition. Two of the students are homeschooled and the others represent 15 schools. Papers were certified for the state competition earlier at regional competitions across the state. A number of the OJAS competitors also have entries in the science and engineering fair. An awards ceremony will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday in Ataloa Theatre in Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. A reception will follow in Lockmiller Lobby outside the theatre. OSSEF/OJAS awards ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Ataloa Theatre.
