Some parents in Grayson Co. upset, say school is too cold

(WHAS11) – Some parents in Grayson County are upset because they say Clarkson Elementary School is too cold.

A note was sent home with students at the school Wednesday recommending they wear extra sweaters or sweatshirts to school. School officials say they’re moving to a different school building next week but had to remove the gas line at the current facility, which means there’s no heat.

“Kids can’t learn if the temperature is very cold. I don’t see how they can learn as much if they’re sitting there cold,” said Sandy Roof, who has grandchildren at Clarkson Elementary.

“I’ve not had the first child tell me it was cold. As a matter of fact, some wore t-shirts or shorts like it was a summer day,” said Edward Chambers, principal of Clarkson Elementary School. Chambers says the temperature in the building is 70 degrees.  If teachers want space heaters in their rooms, the school district is providing them.

]They’re set to move to the new building November 15.
