District 363 school board candidates to speak at forum
The six candidates are Douglas Jourdan, Kelli Steggal, Derrick Wickum, William Eitenmiller, Gary Dougherty and Florence Hervey
The South Koochiching-Rainy River Education Association is hosting a candidates forum to introduce candidates for the school board to voters in the district.
This is the first time in years that there has been a greater pool of candidates than there are seats to fill, and this question-and-answer forum will give voters the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the names on the ballot.
Jerry Struss will moderate the forum in the commons area of Northome School at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19.
Questions can be submitted to Struss at jstruss@northome. k12.mn.us before Monday so they can be mailed to the candidates before the event.
Participating candidates will alternate turns giving their answers to the questions. All answers are to be kept under two minutes. The first question they can expect is: Why did you decide to run for school board? Candidates will also have the opportunity to make closing remarks no longer than two minutes.
The local education association decided to host the event so members from both communities within the school district (Northome School and Indus School) can get to know the candidates vying for three seats on the board.
The six candidates in the Nov. 2 election are: Douglas Jourdan, Kelli Steggal, Derrick Wickum, William Eitenmiller, Gary Dougherty and Florence Hervey.
