Big Five Head takes applications for 3-4 year olds

Big Five Head Start is taking applications for the 2011-2012 school year for all Head Start centers in the Pontotoc County area.

Head Start is a comprehensive child care program that provides activities that help children develop math, science and reading skills. The overall goal of Head Start is to teach developmental activities that encourage self-confidence and independence and promote social competence.

The Big Five Head Start serves an estimated 180 children located in and around the Ada area.

Eligibility is determined by the childs age and family income based on the 2011 Family Income Guidelines. Children must be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2011, to qualify. Ten percent of enrollment must be made available to children with disabilities. Applications are prioritized by computer using the enrollment priority list. Parents should take the childs birth certificate, immunization record, proof of family income, Social Security cards for all household members, and Sooner Care or insurance card to enrollment.

Three-year-old classes are available at the Ada Head Start Center, Monte Vista Academy, and Latta Kids Zone. Applications can be picked up at Ada Head Start office, 1721 Cradduck Road. Contact person is Cindy Rainwater. For more information, phone 332-8233.

Roff Head Start is located at 21880 CR 3499 in Fitzhugh and offers a 3-year-old and 4-year-old program. Applications will be taken by appointment. Contact Stephanie Wilson at 332-8976 to schedule an appointment or pick up an application at the Ada office.

Children in the surrounding areas of Stonewall and Fittstown can also pick up applications at Ada Head Start office. This program is located at the McLish school in Fittstown and offers services for 3- and 4-year-olds. Contact person is Crystal Roppel at 332-8233.
